I haven't updated blog for quite sometime. I was away for 3 weeks in Indonesia. Still miss family and friends. I had a lot of fun, ate all the yummy food that are not available in US.
Miss this little creature which was always so playful and cute who loves wagging its tail.
I brought along list of must-eat mom's food and must-eat local food. The first mom's food that I MUST eat when back home would be the stuffed braised duck. Served with deep fried mantou to deep the sauce *slurp*
One of the popular local food in Medan is Sate Padang. It originated from Padang, one of the cities in West Sumatera. Nevertheless, it is very popular in Medan. One portion normally consists of 1-2 rice cakes, 8-10 satays, doused with spicy thick yellow sauce, and sprinkled with deep fried shallot. The sauce is made of meat broth mixed with different kind of spices such as tumeric, ginger, garlic, coriander, galangal, cumin, curry powder, lemon grass, cinamon, bay leaves, chili, etc *Gosh*
The satays have a lot of varieties to choose from: lamb, chicken, squid, quail eggs, cockle, beef, beef tongue, beef intestines. Some people love to eat it with Mamee sprinkled on top. I love Jangek, the squarish crackers in the photo on the right, which is made of cow skin/meat/fat.
Satay Padang is normally sold on a small cart with a little burner to keep the sauce hot and a tiny grill. Satays are pre grilled, the tiny grill is used to warm up the satays.
I normally buy extra sauce to dip with 10 packs of jangek *crunch*. Can't wait for the next trip to Medan.
